As the 2020 election approaches, concerns remain high regarding threats from foreign and domestic actors. The previous paper in this series detailed the threats emanating from foreign adversaries. 2020 Election Series: Overview of Foreign and Domestic Threats to the 2020 Election

The 2020 U.S. presidential election will be held on Tuesday 03 November 2020, amidst heightened political polarization, the global COVID-19 pandemic, and widespread civil rights protests under the Black Lives Matter movement. Chinese Territorial Ambitions and Potential Implications for the U.S.

From 1839-1949 China underwent what its own history describes as “a century of humiliation” in which it was repeatedly invaded by European, American, and Japanese troops. Risks to DoD Supply Chain

The majority of the Department of Defense’s (DoD) supply chain management is overseen by the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA). Headquartered in Fort Belvoir, Virginia with six major subordinate commands, the DLA manages nine supply chains to fill orders and dispatch shipments to both deployed and non-deployed DoD forces and installations, along with FEMA, DHS, GSA, and select foreign military clients.

Climate Change and Global Security

Climate change is projected to lead to a hotter globe, more frequent days of extreme heat, and warmer oceans. Global annual average temperature measured over both land and oceans has increased by about 1.8°F (1.0°C) according to a linear trend from 1901 to 2016. Without significant changes in global emissions, annual average global temperatures could increase by 9°F (5°C) or more by the end of this.

The Cruise Missile Threat to the U.S.

Cruise missiles pose a unique challenge to the United States and its allies. With their ability to fly at lower altitudes at up-to hypersonic speeds, the weapon has been integrated into the stockpiles of over 70 countries since their inception in the early 20th century. In casual parlance, they fly too low, too quickly to easily intercept, and they can be launched from a wide range of platforms.

ENSO: Global Impacts of El Niño and La Niña

Global weather patterns affect local weather, regional climates, and extreme weather events. Tracking these patterns can assist in preparing for floods, droughts, hurricanes, and high winds. Some of the largest and most impactful weather systems are created by ocean currents. These natural oscillations create weather systems, the most well-known of which is the El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO).
